Schloss Lichtenburg bei Prettin. Vom Antoniterkloster zum Witwensitz

Shortly after the Reformation, the Saxon Elector integrated the medieval Antonine monastery “Lichtenberg” near Prettin (Saxony-Anhalt) into his residential system. Lichtenburg Castle became one of the favourite dowager’s seats in early-modern Saxony. In the early 17th century, the dowager Electress Hedwig of Denmark (1581-1641) and her court mainly lived in Lichtenburg. Several Renaissance and early Baroque wall paintings and wooden ceilings have survived in situ until today.
